little Chapel on the Boardwalk Church news
On this wonderful Mother’s Day, we lift up all mothers in our prayers to God. May the Holy Spirit grant them joy and peace. We rejoice in the presence of each worshiper. Welcome, friends!
The outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon Jesus’ first followers on the first Pentecost after Jesus’ death, is often called the Church’s birthday. Today, we gather for the Lord’s Supper to focus our thoughts on God’s strengthening Spirit. We welcome baptized followers of all Christian faiths to join us at the Lord’s table.
The flowers today are given by Robert McCarl, James McCarl, and Mary Wilson, in loving memory of Helen W. McCarl.
'In Christ we who are many form one body, and
each member belongs to all the others' (Romans 12:5).
Today, during our 11:00 a.m. Worship Service, the following youth
will be presented by the Session to make their profession of faith:
Sarah Margaret Barnes Elizabeth Leigh Long Michael Ryan O’Neil Emily Rose Wright We rejoice that they have chosen to make our faith theirs.
The congregation and staff wish to express its deepest sympathies to Phyllis and Carl Schutt, on the death of Phyllis’s father, Henry Ralph Johnson, who died May 5, 2008.
Today we will receive the Mother’s Day Offering. It will be divided three ways. One-third will go to the Synod to support retired ministers in need. Another portion will go to the Salvation Army Layette Program and the final portion is for the LCOB local Meals-on-Wheels Program.
Many thanks to the Presbyterian Women’s Circles for your support of the Church Women United Migrant ministry in eastern North Carolina. Little Chapel ladies prepared 22 Migrant Health Kits, an increase of 8 kits this year! Your generous contributions will provide basic health needs to the many workers arriving in our area. The Salvation Army Food of the Month is Baby Food. Please leave donations in the basket designated for the Salvation Army, located in the hall across from the Tileston bench. Thank you for your contributions! If you wish to learn more about Little Chapel in Mission, please contact Kathy Blizzard or Jean Northrop, Witness and Service Committee, or the church office. Tileston Outreach: This month we are requesting SUMMER clothing for all family members. As usual, we will accept men’s clothing and shoes, and toiletries for Tileston, including motel items. Suggestion of the week: Go to a Dollar Store and buy some toilet paper for a Tileston guest. On Saturday, May 24, 2nd Loaf will begin its 8th season of collecting unused food from departing renters for the Good Shepherd Soup Kitchen. Thanks to so many of you who have volunteered to sit under the tent in the parking lot and collect food from 9 a.m.-noon. Some open dates remain, so please sign up on the bulletin board in the fellowship hall. It works best when 3-4 work together. Also, we need volunteers to set up the tent and take it down on Saturdays - maybe some youth would like to help! Please contact Ann Martz or the church office (256-2819) for more information.
The Session will meet on Sunday night, May 18. Please have all materials to the church office no later than Friday, May 16th, at 10:00 a.m.

This is a three part series looking at a comparison between the Exodus story and ours. God still has a Promised Land for His People – It is called Abundant Life. A Place like the Promised Lane – where we can KNOW that He is our God and we are His people. But how do we get there – and stay there?

We hope you will take a moment to find out more about each of them on the display boards located in the narthex. We are very proud of each one of them; and are very appreciative of the way you have helped teach & love them here at the Little Chapel.
PYC Update: There is no PYC meeting tonight. We hope you have a wonderful day pampering your mother instead. On, Sunday, May 18th we will be having our annual PYC Beach party down at the Islander Condos (4-6:30pm.). See you then!
College Students are out of school. Some are even coming home for summer jobs, or merely coming home for 2 weeks before leaving for a job in another city. We hope you will take the time to welcome our students back home; we know they will be happy to see you! Also, if you happen to know of a student that has recently graduated, please let the church office know so that we may recognize them in our June newsletter. Welcome home students!!!
Applications for Little Chapel on the Boardwalk Educational Scholarships are available across from the office. Educational scholarships are available for adults as well as graduating high school seniors. Please complete an application and return it to the office by May 31st. Mexico Mission Trip: Please consider joining our Mexico Mission Team as we travel to Reynosa, Mexico (just across the border from McAllen, Texas). We’ll fly down to McAllen, Texas on Sunday, October 19, and spend five days in Mexico building a house for a well-deserving family, returning home on Saturday, October 25. This year, Mike Baynai will be going with us! Call Bryan McIntyre at 792-6196 for more details. Summer Parking at LCOB: The crowded beach-going months are upon us and with them come greater demand for parking. Little Chapel Parking stickers are available at the church office. Without this sticker the office doesn’t know that a particular vehicle belongs to a church member, or a ‘Friend of Little Chapel’. Stickers are also available in the narthex, between services, throughout May.
At the May 4
Congregational meeting, the congregation approved
Session’s recommendation that Little Chapel take out a 5/1 Interest Only
Construction Permanent ARM 30 year basis at a rate of 5.75% through
Cooperative Bank. Our goal is to pay
off the loan in five years making use of fifth Sunday contributions.
If you have questions, please contact Sam Santaniello, Ed O’Neil, or Dickson
Bridger.
