Music
The Music Ministry of the Little Chapel on the Boardwalk Presbyterian Church is a well-rounded program for all ages. There are several ensembles that participate in worship regularly, and everyone is invited to participate in these volunteer groups. The mission of the Music Ministry is one of excellence through education, fellowship, music-making and the worship of Almighty God. Our choirs offer members and friends the opportunity to share their talents in praise and service to Christ's church. Children, youth, and adults learn about scripture, church tradition, and music while enjoying the warm fellowship of our church family. New members are always welcome.
Several ensembles exist to allow members and friends an opportunity to grow musically and worship God faithfully:
The Little Chapel Chancel Choir is the primary service choir that leads in worship from September through May at the 10:30 AM service. Comprised of volunteers of all ages, this choir sings choral literature spanning six centuries. The choir sings music written by Renaissance composers of the 1500s, classical pieces from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries as well as modern arrangements of hymns and folk songs, in addition to classical pieces written by contemporary composers who are writing today. The Chancel Choir also has had an anthem commissioned in their honor. This choir rehearses weekly on Thursday evenings at 7:30 PM, until 9:00 PM, in the choir room. All are welcome to join at any point in the choir year.
The Little Chapel Ringers is a five-octave handbell ensemble that plays regularly in worship. This group plays arrangements of hymns, folk songs, spirituals as well as original compositions by modern composers. Handbell ringing here is not a huge commitment, only an hour or so a week, but pays huge dividends when the music comes together. Unless all of the ringers work as a group, the music is not accomplished. Unlike all other instruments, handbells require a fairly large number of people participating in unison to make the “one instrument” play. To join us, we just ask that you have an enthusiastic spirit that is willing to learn new things and have fun. An ability to read music is a plus, but if you do not know how to just yet, we will teach you and you will learn quickly. You will enjoy it! The Little Chapel Ringers rehearse each Thursday evening at 6:00 PM in the sanctuary and everyone is welcome to join us at any time of the program year.
Each Sunday morning, a group of children gather to join their voices in song. The Children's Choir is a choral ensemble made up of students in Kindergarten through Fifth Grade (or so.) These children learn hymns, children's anthems and fun songs about the Christian life. All children are welcome to join in the exicitment. The choir meets each Sunday morning at 9:00 AM (until 9:30 AM) in the choir room for rehearsals. Led by Jean Schild, the choir is always looking for new members and parent volunteers. This group sings around once a month for the 10:30 AM worship service.
There are many opportunities for instrumentalists to play in worship. We are always looking for strings, wind and brass musicians to play in worship on an as-needed basis. Please contact the church office for more information about playing in worship.
